Shelley Wall is an associate professor in the Biomedical Communications graduate program in the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto, with an educational background in literature, fine art, and medical illustration. The focus of her research, teaching, and creative work for the past decade has been graphic medicine: the study, use, and creation of comics in health care settings.
Her specific area of expertise is Graphic Medicine, which brings together her experiences with literature, visual art, and visual communication in health care. Since 2012, she has taught an annual graduate half-course in graphic medicine in the Biomedical Communications program. She has delivered guest lectures on the subject for the NBM certificate course and given workshops and seminars around the University and beyond. As a board member of the Graphic Medicine International Collective, she keeps up-to-date on exciting publications and developments in the field.
