Lori-Anne Noyahr is an anesthesiologist, award-winning poet, and lecturer in the University of Toronto’s Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine who leads a new workshop with the NBM Lab this season. Poetry in Practice focuses on cultivating skills that can sharpen observation and offer new modes for appreciating the human dimensions of care.
Lori-Anne brings a wealth of experience as a community-based anesthesiologist and writer to the classroom. Her medical practice in the diverse community of Scarborough, where she grew up, informs her writing on family, community, and health. Her published work has appeared in a variety of literary and health humanities venues.
“I’m looking forward to creating a space where we can pause with our experiences of illness, healing, and clinical care through poetry,” Lori-Anne shares.
When asked what participants can expect in this new workshop, Lori-Anne adds: “Together we’ll read poems, develop wellness rituals, and write our own poetry. No poetry experience is required, just a willingness to reflect and share in a safe, exploratory space.”
Designed for healthcare professionals at any stage of practice, this workshop focuses on reading and writing as a vehicle for building skills in close reading, attention, and reflection.
Poetry in Practice: Reflection, Communication, and Creative Expression starts online November 12, 2026.
